23 Sensory rooms for children with special needs launched in Kryvyi Rih raion with the support of Luxembourg

In Kryvyi Rih and raion, 23 modern sensory rooms have been launched in kindergartens, gymnasiums, and the city’s inclusive resource center.

The new spaces were created within the framework of the project “KRYTSIA: Support the Recovery of the Kryvyi Rih Raion”, is funded by The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and implemented by LuxDev (Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency), Proman and the Business Development Fund.

The sensory rooms will support more than 4,500 children with special educational needs, helping them learn in a safe and inclusive environment, reduce anxiety levels, restore emotional balance, and improve concentration.

Sensory rooms are already operating in Kryvyi Rih at kindergartens No. 4, 54, 60, 71, 79, 81, 151, 207, 216, 235, 236, as well as in gymnasiums No. 8, 32, 99, 121, 124, and Inclusive Resource Center No. 2.

They have also been established in the Kryvyi Rih Raion — at the inclusive resource centers of the Apostolivska and Shyrokivska communities, preschools in the Hleiuvatka and Sofiivka hromadas, and the Lozuvatskyi and Radushnenskyi lyceums.

Within the KRYTSIA project, four additional sensory rooms are being equipped in Kryvyi Rih — at gymnasiums No. 45, 56, 91, and primary school No. 43.

What’s inside the new sensory rooms

Each room is equipped with modern tools designed to promote relaxation, focus, and sensory development among children, including:

  • adjustable lighting and projection modules;
  • bubble columns and interactive light effects;
  • audio systems with controlled volume;
  • tactile panels, sensory cubes, and floor mats;
  • bean bag chairs and deep-pressure equipment;
  • interactive panels with coordination and fine motor skills games.

Earlier this summer, 100 educators, teachers, and psychologists completed specialized training under the KRYTSIA: Support the Recovery of the Kryvyi Rih Raion project to effectively use the new equipment and support children in the adaptation process.

For our children, this is more than just a room — it’s a space where they feel that their emotions matter and that there are adults nearby who understand and support them. Even 5–10 minutes in the sensory room help children calm down and smile. We are already seeing a positive effect on their behavior and mood
