How can cities build modern infrastructure, strengthen local economies, introduce sustainable environmental solutions, and develop effective rehabilitation services? These were among the key questions explored by a delegation from Kryvyi Rih during a two-day study visit to Lviv on 17–18 June, held within the framework of the KRYTSIA: Support for the Recovery of Kryvyi Rih Raion Project with the participation of representatives of the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency (LuxDev).
The programme focused on areas that are essential for the recovery and long-term resilience of Ukrainian communities. Representatives of the Kryvyi Rih City Council and LuxDev explored practical solutions that Lviv has successfully implemented in environmental management, municipal infrastructure, investment promotion, industrial development, and medical rehabilitation.
The first day began with a meeting with Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi and First Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Andrii Moskalenko. Discussions focused on urban resilience, strategic community development, and opportunities for intermunicipal cooperation.
A significant part of the programme was dedicated to environmental infrastructure. The delegation visited Lvivvodokanal, the city’s water utility, and toured the construction site of Lviv’s modern waste processing plant, operated by Green City. Both projects demonstrate integrated approaches to modernising municipal services and improving environmental sustainability.
One of the highlights of the visit was a tour of the UNBROKEN National Rehabilitation Centre, where participants learned about its comprehensive model of rehabilitation, prosthetics, and social reintegration for veterans and civilians affected by the war.
The second day focused on economic development. Representatives of Kryvyi Rih and LuxDev held working meetings with officials from Lviv City Council responsible for municipal infrastructure, economic development, investment, and project management. The programme concluded with a visit to Lviv’s industrial parks, where participants discussed approaches to attracting investment, supporting businesses, and creating new jobs.
The study visit marked another important step in strengthening cooperation between Ukrainian municipalities and international partners. The practical solutions implemented in Lviv provide valuable experience that can be adapted to the needs of Kryvyi Rih and contribute to the development of new infrastructure, environmental, and economic initiatives.
