Investing in the Future of Industry: Kryvyi Rih Mining and Metallurgy Lyceum Unveils Two State-of-the-Art Workshops

The Kryvyi Rih Professional Mining and Metallurgy Vocational Lyceum just unveiled two completely overhauled training workshops. Thanks to funding from the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the school now features cutting-edge electrical and metalworking equipment. This upgrade will help train even more high-level specialists for the local industry.

The Kryvyi Rih Professional Mining and Metallurgy Lyceum (KPMML) recently celebrated the opening of two fully renovated training facilities: an electrical installation workshop and a mechanical repair workshop. These spaces were overhauled and outfitted with cutting-edge equipment within the framework of the project KRYTSIA: Support for the recovery of Kryvyi Rih Raion, funded by The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and implemented by LuxDev, the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency, in partnership with Proman and the BDF.

A primary goal of the project is to create a safe, modern educational environment to train the highly competitive specialists required by Kryvyi Rih’s industrial sector. This upgrade will significantly boost the Lyceum’s capacity: the number of electrical engineering graduates is expected to rise from 90 to 120 annually, while mechanical repair specialists will more than double, increasing from 24 to 60 per year.

Both workshops are equipped to meet the current technical standards of the region’s leading enterprises.

Key Upgrades to the Electrical Installation Workshop:

  • Diagnostic Tools: Advanced soldering stations, dual-channel oscilloscopes, and multimeters.
  • Industrial Equipment: Electric motors, magnetic starters, thermal relays, meters, and circuit breakers of various capacities.
  • Environmental Solutions: Installation of a high-performance “Akromobil” filtration and extraction unit for air purification.
  • Specialized Stations: Radio-electronic assembly tables and professional-grade toolkits.

Key Upgrades to the Mechanical Repair Workshop:

  • Work Zones: 30 new carpentry and specialized metalwork benches.
  • Machinery: New drilling and grinding machines.
  • Precision Instruments: Mechanical and electronic calipers for high-precision measurement training.
  • Tooling: Cordless impact drivers, socket sets, and thread-cutting tools.

“Establishing these modern workshops is a strategic move for the city’s economy,” noted the Lyceum administration. “We aren’t just teaching a trade, we are providing the region with a workforce ready to operate the latest technology. Strengthening our infrastructure is the foundation for motivating young people to choose vocational careers.”

This modernization strengthens the Lyceum’s ties with major employers, including ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih, Kryvyi Rih Iron Ore Plant (KZhRK), Metinvest Machinery, Sukha Balka, and City Trolleybus.

Furthermore, an accredited qualification center will operate within these new spaces. This center will allow unemployed residents and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to retrain or certify their skills in electrical installation and welding, with mechanical repair certifications soon to follow.
