Major “Mine Safety Guide for Parents” Campaign Launches in Kryvyi Rih to Help Teach Children Explosive Ordnance Safety

A major campaign titled "A Parent's Guide to Mine Safety" has launched in Kryvyi Rih to help adults calmly teach their children how to stay safe around explosive objects. The materials will be widely accessible both online and offline to help every family in the region develop essential safety habits.

On March 17, the non-governmental organization Information and Educational Hub “Kryvyi Rih. Demining” launched a major new public awareness campaign: the Mine Safety Guide for Parents.

This initiative is being implemented as part of the project “KRYTSIA: Support for Recovery of Kryvyi Rih Raion,” funded by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and implemented by LuxDev – the Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency, in partnership with Proman and BDF.

The campaign will run through the end of 2026 and will consist of a series of 80 thematic leaflets. These materials will be published and distributed twice a week (every Tuesday and Friday) and are divided into three key blocks:

  • Basic rules of safe behavior
  • Types of explosive ordnance (EO) and their characteristics
  • Dangers in public spaces

The inaugural leaflet launching the campaign focuses on general safety rules. It teaches children the most crucial lesson: never touch any unknown objects, even if they look highly attractive or interesting.

Volodymyr Korpusenko, a veteran, noted:

“It is great that such initiatives are becoming public, as the issue of mine safety now concerns absolutely everyone. The information in the flyers is presented in a way that avoids sparking unnecessary curiosity about dangerous items in children, while also ensuring they aren’t overly frightened. This balanced approach teaches children self-control. I hope this guide becomes an effective tool for families and helps protect the health and lives of our children.”

To ensure maximum reach, printed copies of the leaflets will be distributed at the central and district Administrative Service Centers (ASCs), at the checkpoints of the city’s major industrial enterprises, and across 9 gymnasiums in Kryvyi Rih.

All project materials will also be available for free download in digital format:

  • On the city portal
  • On the official KRYTSIA project website
  • On the “Kryvyi Rih. Demining” Hub Facebook page

The primary mission of the Information and Educational Hub “Kryvyi Rih. Demining” is to systematically inform the public and build a sustainable culture of mine safety among city and district residents, given the high risk of encountering explosive ordnance.

When talking to children about explosive ordnance, adults often feel anxious themselves and struggle to find the right words to warn them. Our goal within the KRYTSIA project is to create the right conditions for effective communication and to support parents. Through this guide, we are building safe behavior skills step by step. We have made sure these materials are as accessible as possible for every family in Kryvyi Rih.
